Artistic Residency Program in Bogotá
Tallercasa Salamanca
Daniel Salamanca
Painting, Installation, Drawing, Photography, Performance, Printmaking
This is an ideal space for thinking, reading, painting, drawing, cutting, pasting, embroidering, cooking, and, in general, carrying out delicate processes (not industrial or monumental). For Daniel Salamanca, who lives and works in this space, the boundaries between domestic and artistic activities are blurred and unclear. In that sense, the space lends itself to finding meaning in what we do, generating habits of reflection, and reaffirming that making art is a vital and long-term journey.
Facilities
Taller Casa Salamanca is a residential apartment of 200 m2 located in a modern building from the 1950s, in the El Nogal neighborhood in Bogotá. It has a single floor and is a hybrid space between a workshop, office, warehouse, and residence, all connected by the kitchen, which is the heart of the place.
The space is equipped with basic furniture such as tables, chairs, stools, a ladder, and other work surfaces. In addition, there are tools (hammer, drill, level, rulers, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.), brushes, paints, pencils, markers, some papers, a plan file, rules, cutting surfaces, a polisher, sandpaper, adhesives, ropes, a home printer, computer, projector, tripod, camera, lights, and basic stationery, as well as a personal library with art books, artist books, and literature.
Schedule
Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except for any exception or special agreement with the resident.
Artists in the space
Daniel Salamanca (b. Bogotá, 1983) is a visual artist whose practice reveals the discursive, critical, and narrative potential of ostensibly simple, mundane objects. He graduated with a degree in Visual Arts from Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, 2006) and earned an MA in Painting and Drawing from SAIC (School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2019) as a New Artist Society Scholarship recipient.
Working primarily through drawing and painting—in constant dialogue with writing, poetry, books, graphic arts, cinema, installation, and exhibitions as creative formats—his work has been shown extensively across independent, commercial, and institutional spaces in Colombia, South America (Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina), Europe (Italy, Spain), and the US (Chicago, Miami).
Since 2008, he has balanced artistic production with university teaching, workshop facilitation, and creative direction for cultural projects through Latitud design studio (which he co-founded), alongside occasional cultural journalism.
