Artistic Residency Program in Bogotá

Velandia Studio

Hernando Velandia Guerrero

Sculpture, Installation, Video Art, Sound Art

This workshop focuses on exploring and developing three-dimensional processes, combining technical work with material and conceptual research. It specializes in using various techniques and knowledge applied to ceramics, resins, plastics, concrete, plaster, paper, and other materials.

The space also provides guidance in designing and creating models, enabling projects to be developed from conceptual stages to formal realization. The workshop's dynamics foster knowledge exchange, collaborative work, and constant experimentation, making it an ideal environment for resident artists interested in expanding their practice into sculptural or installation-based work.

Artists in the space

Hernando Velandia Guerrero is a Bogotá-based visual artist who completed his undergraduate degree in Plastic and Visual Arts with a specialization in ceramics at the National University of Colombia, where he is currently pursuing his Master's in Plastic Arts. His work has earned national recognition including: the In Situ Exhibitions Grant: Escape Tunnel (2024); Second Prize at the 7th FUGA Biennial of Plastic and Visual Arts; nomination for the 12th Luis Caballero Award (2023); the Ministry of Culture's Grant for Established Artists (2021); 17th Central Zone Regional Artists Salon (2020); National University of Colombia's Master's Research Grant (2019); 5th Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation Biennial Grant (2018); Honorable Mention in the Ministry of Culture's Mid-Career Artist Grant (2017); and Honorable Mention in the Alliance Française Temporary Exhibitions Cycle (2011).

Velandia's work emerges from historical and field research on cultural issues, landscape reflections, and industrial development processes - relationships he translates through experimental sculptural approaches that explore material behavior in constructed images, seeking to open migratory and narrative possibilities of matter. In recent years, he has focused this investigation more rigorously on culturally significant images found in collective memory and their connections to cinematic mechanisms. The artist has recently revisited ceramic processes and research, adapting them to his artistic vision.

His current projects engage with ancient prefigurations and recurring art images, which he articulates through research revealing temporal and plastic potentials that inform his video works - where memory, archive and investigation emerge anachronistically.
