Curatorship | 2nd Edition R.A.R.O. Buenos Aires 2026

We present Silvia Gurfein, curator of the 2nd Edition of R.A.R.O. Buenos Aires 2026.
Argentina, 1959. Multidisciplinary artist; before dedicating herself to visual arts, she worked in theater, dance, and music. She actively participated in the Buenos Aires underground scene starting in 1983, with the return of democracy. In this context, she developed part of her artistic work as a performer and actress in key venues of that era's cultural movement until 1996, when she encountered painting, which would become her final destination and the center of her practice. In her work, the hypothesis is about time. She considers painting a medium that connects heterogeneous times—an attempt to glimpse the particular way time accumulates as matter, gets lost, escapes, or pulverizes. She explores a zone of non-linear temporality, between the image and its fading away. Her work can be read through references to the image as a ghost, painting as a time capsule, and working with the remnants of paint.
In 2010, she created El texto de la obra (The Text of the Work), a writing workshop for artists that she teaches at various institutions in Argentina and abroad. Since 2015, she has also developed her work as a curator. Highlights include Fractura expuesta at Arthaus (2025), Ojos en el cielo, the virtual platform hosted within the F.J. Klemm Foundation website (since 2021), and Contra el sol, a solo exhibition by artist Verónica Gómez at C.C. Recoleta (2018). She has written prologues for several exhibitions, and her texts have been published in catalogs, magazines, and books. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (FNA) and was awarded top honors at the National Salon of Visual Arts, the Klemm Foundation Award, and the 8M Award, among others. In 2022, she was selected among the outstanding personalities of the decade in visual arts by the Konex Foundation. She exhibits individually and collectively in museums and institutions such as Museo Moderno, Macro-Rosario, Museo de la Memoria-Rosario, Macba, Proa, CC Kirchner, CC Recoleta, and galleries like Nora Fisch, Casa Triángulo (Brazil), among others. Her work is part of public and private collections in Argentina and abroad.
Very soon, we will share the activities we will be carrying out during this edition.
