Quiasmo Taller - Galería
Ana Milena Gómez
Textile, painting, installation, drawing, and printmaking
Quiasmo Taller-Galería is a self-managed project that began in 2012 with the purpose of opening a space for meeting and conversation among friends, neighbors and children who share an interest in arts and crafts.
In addition to being the workshop space for the artists involved in the project, it is a place where several proposals converge, such as "En el Taller," a creation laboratory where classes are taught for children and young people. It also hosts collective gatherings such as sewing circles, workshops, conferences, and local entrepreneurship fairs.
It has an exhibition space that is activated with activities proposed by the artists who showcase their work; one of the objectives is to make visible the work of the boys and girls who go through the workshop.
Quiasmo Taller-Galería is part of the Creative District of Teusaquillo, a project led by Mapa Teusaquillo, one of our main allies with whom we develop activities such as workshops, heritage visits, open days, among others.
The project is composed of:
Carlos Naranjo, architect, sculptor, and teacher.
Emma Naranjo, draftsman.
Ana Milena Gómez, visual artist, weaver, and teacher.
Facilities
Quiasmo Taller Galería is located in the La Magdalena neighborhood, in the Teusaquillo district. Entry is through a garden, and the first space is a small shop where works created by the artists involved in the project, as well as by designer and artisan friends, are exhibited and sold. A door separates the studio from the living area, where the project members reside.
The space is situated on the ground floor of a family home, so it is essential to inhabit it with care and respect. It is also important to keep in mind that the project's artists are actively working in the studio space. Therefore, residents are expected to: respect agreed schedules and designated areas; use materials and the workspace responsibly;coordinate shared use of equipment; contribute to the maintenance of the facilities during their stay; assume repair costs for any damage to equipment, if applicable; refrain from using drugs or consuming alcohol on the premises; avoid smoking inside the studio; not access the private living area.
The studio is made up of three continuous spaces that can be adapted to the needs of each project. It has natural light, as well as general and focused lighting.
Studio area: This is where activities such as textile work (wet felting, dyeing, botanical printing), small-format printmaking, mold-making, and drawing are carried out. Natural light enters during the day. The space also includes a bathroom and a small kitchenette with a stove, a coffee maker, basic utensils (glasses, plates, cutlery), and a sink for washing brushes and other materials.
Schedule
Weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Weekends or extended hours, depending on agreement with each artist.
Artists in the space
Ana Milena holds a degree in Fine and Visual Arts from the National University of Colombia (UNAL).
She lived in Barcelona for 12 years, where she was involved in the painters and illustrators fair on Las Ramblas. During that time, she attended various arts and crafts workshops throughout the city, which enriched her formation as an artist–artisan, with a special interest in textile practices.
She has participated in art education projects as a cultural mediator, working with migrant women, youth, and children.
Ana is particularly interested in community-based work and is currently developing a research-creation project with master embroiderers in Cartago. She combines her artistic practice with teaching in a variety of educational settings.
Her work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in Spain, Portugal, France, and Colombia.
