Artists in the space
Juan Covelli (b. 1985) is a visual artist and independent curator based in Bogotá. He holds an MA in Philosophy and Contemporary Photography Practices from Central Saint Martins (London) and serves as researcher, university professor, and founding member of the digital platform Nmenos1. His practice investigates new materialities spawned by the digital era, particularly physical dynamics within ethereal spaces. Covelli harnesses technological potentials of archiving, 3D scanning/modeling/printing, machine learning, and AI as radical creation tools—challenging entrenched narratives about repatriation and colonial histories while probing intersections between technology, heritage, archaeology, and decolonial practices in the digital age. Through video, modeling, databases, and code, he builds installations that collapse historical practices with contemporary digital visualization models. Recently nominated for the Luis Caballero Prize and awarded the Lumen Prize for moving image.
